Re:Born Japanとは?
What is “Re:Born Japan” ?

Revitalizing the “true value” of objects and the “potential” of people.

Kimonos—a beautiful part of Japanese culture—that lie unused in homes, and underutilized local resources that have lost their purpose. At Re:Born Japan, we believe in the “true value” of these items and, through the meticulous handiwork of local artisans, active seniors, and people with disabilities, we transform them into “upcycled products” (Recycle) that have been given new life.
What we value most in our craftsmanship is our “responsibility” toward the materials entrusted to us and our sincere “response” to the challenges facing our communities and society. This initiative goes beyond environmental conservation through waste reduction. It also provides creators with a sense of “fulfillment” and an “economic role,” serving as a platform for vocational skills development and job creation where everyone can shine with pride.
Furthermore, this warm cycle of giving extends beyond national borders. A portion of the profits generated by our business is “reinvested (Reduction)” to support children and promote environmental education in Asian countries, including Indonesia.
The “mottainai” spirit—the mindset of cherishing things—unlocks human potential and brings beautiful harmony to the world’s future. Re:Born Japan is an SDGs project aiming for a sustainable society, connecting the world from our roots in Yamaguchi.

背景Background

In modern society, the cycle of mass production and mass consumption not only increases the burden on the environment but also dilutes the creators’ intentions and cultural value embedded in objects.
Since ancient times, Japan has embraced the spirit of “MOTTAINAI” (waste not, want not), which involves cherishing objects and using them until the very end. However, as lifestyles have changed, the number of kimonos gathering dust in closets and resources being discarded without being put to good use has been on the rise.
Furthermore, in local communities facing declining birthrates and aging populations, there is a reality where people—such as retirees and those with disabilities—who possess a wealth of experience, skills, and a desire to work still face limited opportunities for social participation and meaningful engagement.

「MOTTAINAI」とは?What is “MOTTAINAI”?

A Spirit of Respect for Objects and Belief in Their Potential
Treating Things with Gratitude and Care

Our mission is to promote and raise awareness of the “MOTTAINAI” spirit—a traditional Japanese cultural value—and to carry out initiatives related to environmental conservation and educational support both in Japan and abroad. We aim to contribute to the creation of a circular economy, the realization of local communities where people from diverse backgrounds can thrive, and the advancement of international cooperation.

Connecting people, forging bonds

Based on the meanings above, the logo was designed by superimposing a ribbon (*2) featuring elements of Japan’s traditional mizuhiki (*1) onto the recycling symbol.
*1
Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese decorative cord used to tie gift wrappings.
This beautiful design, which has adorned gifts since ancient times, serves as proof that the gift is unopened and also symbolizes the connection between people.
*2
Ribbon (bow)
Because it can be untied and re-tied as many times as desired, it is used for joyous celebrations that can occur repeatedly.
It also symbolizes the hope that strong bonds—between people, between objects, and between people and objects—will continue for a long time, layer upon layer.
